From the First Page to Publication: Releasing Overpass of Echoes

There are moments in life when you finally get to say, “I actually did it.” For me, that moment has arrived with the release of my first novel, Overpass of Echoes, the first book in the Sheep Dog Series.

I’m excited to announce that Overpass of Echoes is now available for preorder on Amazon, with the official release date set for August 31, 2026.

What started as an idea bouncing around in my head has finally become a finished book that I can put into the hands of readers. That is an incredible feeling—and one I honestly wasn't sure would ever happen.

The Story Was the Easy Part

One of the biggest surprises of this entire journey has been discovering that writing the story was actually the easy part.

Once I had the characters, the setting, and the basic storyline in my head, the words seemed to come fairly naturally. Spencer Williams, Gabe, and the other characters of Overpass of Echoes began to take on lives of their own. Scenes developed, problems emerged, and before I knew it, the story was taking shape on the page.

Then came everything else.

Self-publishing a book for the first time opened my eyes to just how much goes into getting a finished manuscript from a computer screen to an actual published book. Editing, formatting, cover design, copyright information, descriptions, publishing platforms, distribution, marketing, and all the little details I never even knew existed suddenly became part of the process.

Every step seemed to come with another question:

How do I format this?

What size should the book be?

What about the cover?

How do I prepare it for publication?

What information needs to be included?

And just when I thought I had everything figured out, there was usually one more thing to learn.

It has definitely been a learning experience.

The Challenge of Self-Publishing

I have a tremendous amount of respect now for authors who take on the self-publishing journey. Writing a book is an accomplishment, but publishing that book yourself requires an entirely different set of skills.

There were times when the process was frustrating and times when I wondered if I would ever get everything finished. But with every obstacle came something new to learn.

Looking back, I realize that this first book has been about much more than simply telling a story. It has been about learning the entire process of becoming a published author.

And while there is still plenty I don't know, I know considerably more now than I did when I started.

That means the next book should be a little smoother.

Overpass of Echoes Is Just the Beginning

The most exciting part is that Overpass of Echoes isn't the end of the story.

It's the beginning.

The second book in the Sheep Dog Series, The Relay, is already well on its way. The story is developing, the characters are continuing their journey, and there are plenty more ideas waiting to make their way from my head onto the page.

One of the things I've discovered through this process is that I have no shortage of stories I want to tell. If anything, there seem to be more ideas bouncing around in my head now than ever before.

My hope is that, having learned so much from publishing the first book, I can get those stories out to you more quickly and efficiently.

But for now, I'm looking forward to seeing Overpass of Echoes make its way into the hands of readers.
